Regarding the decision on the slogan and emblem of Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games

 At the 27th Executive Board of the Organizing Committee, held at Iris Aichi (Naka Ward, Nagoya City) on December 25, the following slogan and emblem were adopted for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games.
 

1. Slogan

(1) Purpose of creation

 The slogan was developed and designed to imagine the passion of each Para athlete in the stadium and,  by encouraging people to try to imagine it, to make the Games a place where everyone can unite their hearts. It is paired with the slogan for the 20th Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026) “IMAGIN ONE ASIA” to further deepen its meaning.
 

(2) Creator

Ms. Waca Sakamoto

Branding copywriter/Creative director

Ms. Waca Sakamoto is a prolific author of copy familiar to the public, such as “Karada ni peace (Peace to the Body).” She also created the slogan for the 20th Asian Games, “IMAGIN ONE ASIA.” In addition to her main business, she serves as a lecturer for many media outlets and continues to share the joy of thinking, imagining, and the Japanese language with the public. She is the representative of Cotori-sha LLC.
 

2. Emblem

(1) Purpose of creation

 Using the design components of the Asian Games emblem, the burning passion of the Para athletes is expressed in warm colors in coordination with the Asian Games. This emblem also symbolizes the continuity of a passionate connection from the Aichi-Nagoya Games to the future Asian Para Games.
 

(2) Creator

Mr. Hiroshi Miyashita

Mr. Hiroshi Miyashita was born in Okazaki City, Aichi Prefecture, in 1961. He completed the Design course of the Graduate School of Fine Arts, Aichi University of the Arts. He retired from his position as Associate Professor, Department of Design, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Aichi Sangyo University, and currently works as a graphic designer.
His major awards include a prize at the World Poster Triennale Toyama 1997/2009 and the Jury Prize (selected by Osamu Fukushima) at the Delicious Tohoku Package Design Competition 2017.

 

3. Production/selection process

September 8, 2023: 25th Executive Board of the Organizing Committee
・Decided on the basic policy of the production of intellectual property

October 19, 2023: 1st Production Review Committee
・Production policy
 To create a sense of unity with the Asian Games, it was decided that the creators of the Asian Games slogan and emblem, the Production Review Committee, and the Organizing Committee would collaborate and discuss how to proceed with the production.

November 15, 2023: 2nd Production Review Committee
・Developed a production concept
 “Using the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games as an opportunity, the City of Nagoya and Aichi Prefecture will promote a new direction for an inclusive society and for para-sport.”
・Decided creators
 Slogan: Ms. Waca Sakamoto
 Emblem: Mr. Hiroshi Miyashita
・Regarding opportunities to fully reflect the opinions of stakeholders
 The creators held hearing sessions with experts who have experience in managing the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
 Appointed para-athletes as selection committee members
 Conducted interviews with university students

Mid-November 2023: The creators hold hearing sessions with experts who have experience in managing the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games (two sessions).

November 29, 2023: 3rd Production Review Committee
・From the many submissions from the creators, a shortlist of candidates has been selected for the Selection Committee.
 → Started research on trademarks
・Proposed nominees for the Selection Committee
 Appointed para-athletes in addition to members of the Production Review Committee

Early December 2023: Conducted interviews with university students to obtain a wide range of opinions as a reference for the selection, and the results were shared with the Selection Committee (two universities in the prefecture).

December 13, 2023: 1st Selection Committee Meeting
・Discussed the criteria and procedures necessary for selecting candidate plans based on the production concept

December 19, 2023: 2nd Selection Committee Meeting
・Defined selection criteria and procedures 
 Evaluation reflected “sense of unity,” “appeal of the host city,” “enthusiasm of athletes,” “internationality,” and “sense of familiarity.”
・Shortlisted plans for submission to the Executive Board
  The combination of a slogan and an emblem was evaluated.

5. Interviews with students from universities in the prefecture

 Interviews were conducted with university students to obtain a wide range of opinions as a reference for the selection, and the results were shared with the Selection Committee (two universities in the prefecture).
 Interviewee: A total of 106 students from the School of Health and Sport Sciences, Chukyo University, and Faculty of Sport Sciences, Nihon Fukushi University
 

6. Announcement Event for Slogan/Emblem

 After the Organizing Committee Executive Board on December 25, an announcement event for the slogan and emblem was held at Iris Aichi.
